Leading UK Period Pants Brand, WUKA, Hires Rooster

Leading UK Period Pants Brand, WUKA, Hires Rooster

Sustainability, empowerment, inclusivity, and candour will form the basis of Rooster comms for WUKA.

Pioneering reusable period wear start up, WUKA, has appointed Rooster to manage brand and product PR following a competitive tender process.

Rooster will be working as an extension of the WUKA family to promote product, raise the brand profile, communicate the WUKA goals of ensuring equality, inclusivity and social & environmental responsibility, and support lobby campaigns, including the abolition of VAT on reusable period pants.

Founded in 2017 by husband-and-wife team, Ruby Raut and Dave Slocombe, WUKA is the UK’s leading period pants brand and was the first in the UK to produce fully leak-proof reusable period underwear that completely replaces the need for pads and tampons. And the even better news is that just one pair of WUKA period pants can save 200 single-use plastic-riddled disposables from going to landfill or polluting our oceans.

Sustainable practice and the delivery of truly eco-friendly products has been a primary goal for WUKA from the outset, but the brand has multiple and seriously admirable ambitions.

“WUKA stands for Wake Up, Kick Ass,” says co-founder, Ruby. “In everything we do we believe in breaking taboos and reducing our collective impact on the planet”

“Our mission is fourfold: to empower the menstruating population; improve access to quality, comfortable, sustainable period products; eliminate period poverty; and remove period shame and stigma.”

WUKA offers a range of award-winning undies and more recently has diversified its product offering to include period leggings, sport shorts, swim briefs, and a range of period accessories and gifts. The period wear suits all different menstrual flows, holding from two to six tampons worth of period blood, and as a true advocate for body positivity, WUKA offers the most extensive range of sizes on the market – from XXS, right up to 6XL.

Ruby, says: “We chose Rooster because it was so clear from our various conversations and from their proposal that they understood us and what we want to achieve; which is so much more than just pushing our product.

“The team has been efficient, thorough, amenable and professional, coping really well with a number of time sensitive priorities since kicking-off the partnership. After just a week of working with them, we feel reassured that we have a reliable partner in Rooster, and a team that feels just as passionate as we do about the issues we want to address as a brand.”

Julie Aguilera, Rooster Associate Director and Head of Consumer & Lifestyle, said: “We’re genuinely thrilled to be working with WUKA. Ruby’s personal period story having grown up in Nepal is both moving and maddening. There is so much work that needs to be done to remove the shame and stigma around what is a completely natural and healthy bodily function that half of the global population experiences.

“It’s inspiring to be able to support this cause whilst promoting a quality, sustainable solution that allows women to go comfortably and confidently about their day-to-day and be part of the push to make that solution more accessible to all.

“We are already 100% invested in WUKA’s mission and look forward to contributing towards the continued success of both the brand and its innovative products.”

WUKA joins Rooster’s portfolio of consumer clients, alongside Tempur, Contura, and the most recent consumer account win, Hawkes – BrewDog’s Bermondsey based craft cider brand.
