  • Free ‘phone consultations available to Tempur customers, NHS staff, and care home workers who may be suffering with sleep issues through the COVID-19 crisis
  • Tempur to also make a donation this Mental Health Awareness week (18-24 May), to charity partner, the Mental Health Foundation, bringing total donations to almost £10,000

Premium mattress brand, Tempur, launches a free sleep consultation initiative to offer sleep advice to customers, NHS and care home workers this Mental Health Awareness Week (18-24 May 2020).

The free 20-minute consultations will be provided by Tempur sleep expert and chartered psychologist, Suzy Reading.

A dedicated landing page on the tempur.co.uk website will allow people to register for the sleep consultations from 18-24 May. Up to 60 appointments, available this June and July, will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those eligible to book their free consultation will include customers purchasing Tempur products via the Tempur UK website between 18-24 May, NHS staff, upon presentation of their NHS ID, and care home workers, upon provision of the address of their place of work.

Tempur will also be making a sizable donation to long term charity partner, the Mental Health Foundation, in support of the charity’s Mental Health Awareness Week campaign, bringing total donations over the past two years to just shy of £10,000.

“It’s only natural that our sleep may suffer during these difficult and uncertain times,” says Tempur sleep expert, Suzy Reading. “Worrying about work, health, family, friends, or finances can make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep, and this is inevitably going to be amplified by the lifestyle changes and general disruption we are all having to adapt to owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Quality sleep is a critical to maintaining good overall health and wellbeing and has multiple benefits; reducing stress or anxiety, boosting our mood, helping us to concentrate and perform better, and allowing the body and mind to better rest and repair.

“Factors that impact our sleep include diet, lifestyle, health, exercise or fitness, and even our sleep environment, and there are several ways to try to improve sleep hygiene in the short and long-term.

“For shift workers and care workers undertaking long and stressful hours particularly, good sleep is paramount. This partnership with Tempur is enabling me to provide free critical advice, tailored to individual sleep needs, in the hope of offering some respite for those who need it most.”

Tobin James, MD at Tempur UK, said: “We have supported the Mental Health Foundation for just over two years, raising almost £10,000 via in-store, commercial, and team fundraising initiatives, including a charity climb of Mount Snowdon.

“As a leading global mattress brand dedicated to improving the sleep experience worldwide, we truly understand the importance of a great night’s sleep. We want to show our appreciation for NHS and care workers on the front line, as well give thanks to our customers for their loyalty, by offering these individual consultations to help anyone who might be suffering from sleep problems.”

The Mental Health Foundation’s head of corporate partnerships and resident sleep expert, Chris O’Sullivan, said: “The importance of good sleep in preventing mental health problems is one we can never shout loud enough about, so we wholeheartedly welcome Tempur’s sleep consultation initiative, which also fits well with the theme of kindness for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and demonstrates the appreciation and support we all need to offer our nation’s key workers in the fight against Covid-19.”
