Air Cabin Quality could Pose a Serious Long-Term National Health Issue

Air Cabin Quality could Pose a Serious Long-Term National Health Issue
19 August 2015 admin_rooster

As people jetted away at the weekend for a last bit of summer sun, new research from leading claims portal Claims.co.uk, identifies a potentially significant long-term public health issue for regular air travellers.

In a report published today, over one fifth (23%) of us believe we’ve been unwell due to cabin air quality. Of 2028 people polled as part of a Nationally Representative YouGov sample, almost half (49%) of British adults don’t think they’d be eligible to claim against an airline after feeling unwell due to quality of air.

Aero Toxic Syndrome may affect as many as 200,000 passengers per year, according to a Daily Telegraph article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/759562/Is-cabin-air-making-us-sick.html)

John Quail, Managing Director of Claims.co.uk who commissioned the YouGov survey, said: “Currently, media exposure of people seriously affected by so-called aero toxicity syndrome has naturally focused on high profile cases by cabin crew against their employers.”

“As we see increased awareness of this condition created by documentaries, the launch of a high profile film, and the general publicity surrounding ongoing cases with certain airlines’ cabin crew, it may become apparent that significant numbers of the general public may have been affected, too – especially business people and other regular fliers.”

According to the CAA: 238,557,866 was the total number of passenger journeys  flying from the UK in 2014. The Montreal Convention 1999 states that airlines are liable for all bodily injuries occurring on board any flight.
