Airport Surprise for 10,000th Passenger Taking Off with WOW air!

Airport Surprise for 10,000th Passenger Taking Off with WOW air!
4 October 2016 James Brooke

Couple celebrating their first wedding anniversary surprised with VIP treatment as they become milestone passengers on new route launched earlier this year.

Nicola Saunders from Taunton received a welcome surprise upon arriving at the departure gate for her WOW air flight from Bristol to Reykjavik today, receiving a surprise congratulations for becoming the ten thousandth passenger to check-in to the airport with the Icelandic low cost airline.

As she arrived at Gate 26, Nicola was met by her WOW air flight’s Captain Siggeir dór Siggeirsson, members of the cabin crew and Bristol Airport’s Head of Aviation Peter Downes who surprised her with a bottle of champagne to enjoy on arrival at her destination and a free trip away for two with WOW air to any of their North American destinations that connect from their Icelandic hub.

As an extra treat, Nicola and her husband Les, were also offered free food and drinks on their flight once they boarded.

Delighted, Nicola and Les said: “”It’s very surreal but perfect timing as it’s our first wedding anniversary! We feel completely overwhelmed!”

Svana Friðriksdóttir, Head of Communications at WOW air commented: “Though we’ve only been operating from Bristol since May, we’ve been thrilled to fly so many passengers to our home in Iceland and, for many, on to our destinations in the US and Canada. We wish Nicola and Les a wonderful first anniversary celebration in Iceland and look forward to having them on board for their next trip on us!”

Peter Downes, Head of Aviation, Bristol Airport added: “This is an exciting day for Bristol Airport, celebrating 10,000 passengers departing from the region to Iceland with onward connections to North America.  After a very successful first summer, WOW air continue to go from strength to strength at Bristol.

“Since the first flight departed in May, the service has been a revelation in terms of opening up the South West region and its fabulous tourist attractions to more overseas visitors than ever before.  It has also given customers living in the region the opportunity to take advantage of incredibly low fares to North American destinations which they might previously have considered unaffordable.  Passenger numbers on the service have been excellent and we are looking forward to the next chapter of our partnership with WOW air when onward connections from Iceland to New York commence next month.”

WOW air fly from Bristol three times a week with onward connections to North American cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, Boston and Washington DC. From November, passengers will be able to connect on to New York City.

WOW air is currently offering fares from Bristol to Reykjavik for just £32.99 or £119.99 to North America one way. To book, visit www.wowair.co.uk.
