With snow beginning to fall across parts of the Alps, the alpine resort of LAAX, Switzerland is already gearing up for the upcoming winter season. In just over two months, skiers and snowboarders will be able to hit the slopes daily, with lifts opening from 30 November 2024.

Known as the top freestyle destination in Europe and celebrated for its strong commitment to sustainability, the resort has several exciting launches planned for winter 2024-25, including:

Freestyle Academy LAAX

Following two years of reconstruction, Europe’s first Freestyle Academy is set to officially reopen this December. Reflecting the recent progression of freestyle sports, new additions include a fivesquare trampoline with 360 cameras for jump analysis, a skatebowl doubled in size, an expanded parkour zone with jumping tower and airbag, and a new café and Vans shop.

The improved Freestyle Academy consisting of over 2,000 square metres of freestyle fun, will enable novices and pros alike to practice their skills on the valley floor before heading to the mountain, as well as encouraging winter sports enthusiasts to train in cross-discipline sports such as skateboarding, parkour, and gymnastics.

Prices start at 30CHF (£26) for an hour for non-members, 24CHF (£21) for members and 15CHF (£13) for skate-only members. Year passes for adults and children are also available. For more information please visit: https://freestyleacademy.com/offer/view/entry-and-passes.

LAAX OPEN

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the LAAX OPEN will take place 14-18 January 2025. The FIS Freeski & Snowboarding World Cup event brings around 300 athletes to the area to show off their skills in halfpipe and slopestyle competitions. With LAAX being home to the world’s biggest halfpipe, it’s sure to be an exciting event for winter sport enthusiasts.

In addition to the spectacular contests, visitors can look forward to an exciting program of free live concerts and events on the mountain and in the valley.

FlemXpress Extension

The world’s first on-demand Gondola, the FlemXpress, is expanding with two additional sections of the revolutionary service set to open this winter – Startgels-Segnes, Segnes-Nagens Sura. The new additions will further connect the region, giving visitors direct lift access to Segnes and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tectonic Arena Sardona which offers exceptional and dramatic mountain displays and is one of the most significant geological sites of Switzerland.

Often referred to as the ‘Uber Gondola’, the service operates only when there are guests who actively want to board, keeping the construction in line with the Greenstyle sustainability concept of the resort and reducing energy consumption by up to 50% compared to a traditional chairlift.

New Activities on the World’s Longest Treetop Walk

Open throughout the winter season, LAAX’s 1.56-kilometre treetop walk, Senda dil Dragun, is the longest treetop path in the world and offers guests the unique opportunity to experience the snow covered LAAX forest at eye level, whilst learning about the nature that surrounds them via the information displayed on five viewing platforms.

The digital experience, available for adults and children, offers a guided tour of the treetop walk, highlighting key facts and information via a digital tablet and provides information on a variety of topics from animals and birds to landslides and debris cones.

Day tickets start at16CHF (£14) for adults and 8CHF (£7) for juniors, aged 6-17 years of age.
