Iceland’s newest low-cost airline, PLAY, has today (1 February 2022) announced its newest route between London and New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), bringing the total number of US destinations to three, alongside Boston and Baltimore/Washington.
Ticket sales begin today (1 February 2022) at www.flyplay.com, with the first flight departing on 10 July 2022 opening up affordable air travel to New York via Iceland’s Reykjavik, from as little as £159 one way (standard fare).
To celebrate the launch of its New York service, PLAY is offering a special introductory rate until midnight on 7 February 2022 of £139 on flights departing from London Stansted, making a trip to the Big Apple even more affordable.
Transatlantic flights to New York will depart from London four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), with a 1 hour and 35 minutes layover in Reykjavik.
Birgir Jónsson, PLAY CEO, said: “New York is a critical location for both European tourists looking to explore Manhattan, and American travellers heading to the 22 destinations we fly to including Iceland, Paris, Dublin, and more. We anticipate strong bookings in 2022, and with New York as our third U.S. destination, PLAY passengers will have more choices when booking last-minute trips, work-cations, and spontaneous adventures.
“After we learnt of the surge in the area surrounding New York Stewart and the benefits it offers, we did not hesitate in snapping up the chance to operate from this airport. The low fares and flexibility that passengers experience at Stewart International Airport are exactly what passengers seek when they book their travel with PLAY .”
Though Stewart airport is further away from Manhattan than JFK and Newark, it takes passengers approximately an hour less to get there thanks to the time saved getting through airport customs, compared to the much lengthier processes at JFK and Newark. In addtion, faster transport routes by taxi, bus, and train, including Metro North, Amtrak, or Newburgh-Beacon-Stewart Link, mean travelling from Stewart is faster and more convenient.
Stewart also gives passengers the chance to save money, with Coach USA operating rides to Manhattan, which are timed to coincide with the arrival and departure of PLAY’s flights, costing just $20, compared to $52 travelling via taxi from JFK.
Serving New York City, the growing Hudson Valley area, New Jersey, and Connecticut, New York Stewart airport is popular among families, with proximity to top attractions including Legoland NY Resort, Woodbury Commons.
Now, with three airports in the U.S., PLAY is prepared to support a travel comeback in 2022, enabling travellers to enjoy spring and summer trips in the States. As travellers’ habits change from long-term planning to spontaneous last-minute bookings, passengers will choose PLAY for affordable, reliable, and the flexibility offered when booking their flights. With PLAY’s COVID-19 policy, passengers have peace of mind knowing they have the ability to make any necessary flight changes due to COVID-19.
*PLAY’s introductory deal is £139 flights departing from London Stansted as part of a roundtrip booking scheduled between September and October 2022 to New York Stewart Airport. This deal is valid until midnight GMT on 7 February . This price is inclusive of all mandatory taxes, fees and carrier charges. Restrictions and baggage fees apply.
