PLAY Launches Value Bundles for up to 40% Savings on Bookings

PLAY Launches Value Bundles for up to 40% Savings on Bookings
14 February 2023 Samantha Anderson

Icelandic low-cost airline, PLAY, has introduced a new ‘value bundles’ feature to the booking process to help passengers pay less and play more in their destination.

Travellers could save up to 40% off the total cost of their journey using bundles instead of adding baggage and seats after paying for tickets.

The available bundles are:

  • PLAY basic: Airfare, taxes, one personal item
  • PLAY value: Airfare, taxes, one personal item, one checked baggage, one carry-on bag, priority boarding, middle/back seat selection
  • PLAY flex: Everything in PLAY value, plus seat selection anywhere in the plane (excluding extra legroom seats) and the ability to change flight dates for free (pay fare difference only).

These bundles are ideal for money savvy Brits, who this January made up the largest group of visitors to Iceland, with 30% of all tourists being British.

Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY says, “This is an exciting upgrade for our passengers, as we continue to make travel more affordable and accessible. With this new feature, our prices and services are now even better.

Our motto, ‘Pay less, PLAY more,’ remains at the forefront of our mission.”

PLAY continues to operate successfully in 2023 and in January carried 61,798 passengers, more than five times the number of passengers PLAY carried in January 2022. The airline also announced its first Canadian route in January, which launches in Toronto Hamilton on 22 June 2023.

The load factor in January was 76% compared to an 82.8% load factor in December. Though this is a decrease from the previous month, January’s load factor and passenger numbers are very satisfactory for a traditionally difficult month in travel, demonstrating the continued growth and effectiveness of PLAY’s distribution and commercial activity.

Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY said, “Traffic numbers in January were healthy despite the month being one of the weakest in terms of demand. We decreased our capacity in the month, reduced frequencies and adjusted the network to lower costs during this low season, thus showing the flexibility of our network and business model in action. The year begins with very strong booking trends and we are very positive for the upcoming year. Our capacity in summer 2023 is growing by close to 77% compared to summer 2022 and we are adding four new aircraft to our fleet and welcoming around 200 new team members, it is a real pleasure to see the PLAY team continuously growing stronger and working hard on reaching our goals for the year.”
