Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts Sees 52% Increase in UK Arrivals for 2017

Record year for the fast-growing Maldivian resort brand.

Burgeoning Indian Ocean resort brand Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts saw an impressive 52% increase on UK visitation in 2017, with more than 1 in 20 Brits heading for the Maldives now bound for one of their properties1,2.

The group, that launched with the opening of the 5* Atmosphere Kanifushi in 2013, welcomed 6,664 UK visitors in 2017, an increase from 4,394 in 2016, with an accumulative total of almost 15,000 UK visitors to Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts properties since the company began.

The company’s property portfolio now includes the specialist 4* diving resort OBLU at Helengeli (opened November 2015) and 5* luxury OZEN by Atmosphere (opened in July 2016) with a new 4* deluxe resort, OBLU Select, due to open on 1 July 2018, complete with exclusive overwater honeymoon pool suites.

The company’s ongoing popularity with the Brits is believed to be due in part to their authentic local identity and high service standards.

“The Maldives is a market where you can find a lot of international hotel brands, however travellers are increasingly wanting an authentic, localised experience, including in their choice of accommodation,” says Dinesh Bhaskar, Group Director, Sales & Marketing for Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts. “Our resorts are locally owned, designed and operated so an authentic Maldivian influence is omnipresent, while our staff are instilled with our mantra of ‘the joy of giving’ that underpins all aspects of our customer service. In addition to visitor numbers, the total UK room nights booked across the board also rose to 24,391, up from 14,692 in 2016, marking a 66% increase. The property breakdown for the individual resorts was a 20% YoY increase for Atmosphere Kanifushi, 82% for OBLU Helengeli and an astonishing 435% for OZEN at Maadhoo3.
