U.S. East Coast Destination Retains UK PR Representation For The First Time.

Discover Long Island, the official tourism organisation for Long Island, has appointed Rooster PR as its first retained agency in the UK. Rooster has been briefed to maximise awareness of the destination around World Travel Market (WTM) 2017 and implement a proactive PR campaign throughout 2018.

Renowned for its sparkling ocean beaches, rich presidential and revolutionary history and the famed Hamptons, Long Island is also home to numerous quaint downtown villages and robust dining and shopping options. The destination is rated as one of the “Top 10 Wine Regions in the World” by Wine Enthusiast.

Recently the organisation announced a first-time international marketing collaboration with New York City & Company to promote NYC+, a concept that highlights Long Island as “New York City’s Beachfront Backyard.”  Long Island’s tourism industry has become an economic driver resulting in $5.6 billion in revenue for local businesses by promoting the region as a world-class destination for tourism, meetings, trade shows, sporting events and related activities.

Kristen Jarnagin, President & CEO of Discover Long Island, said: “We were impressed by Rooster’s extensive experience in promoting destinations and tourism organisations worldwide. As we seek to attract a greater number of international visitors, we’re looking forward to driving deeper awareness of Long Island, and its close proximity to New York City, through Rooster’s connections with the UK travel and lifestyle media.”

James Brooke, Managing Director at Rooster, said: “Long Island is so much more than just a charming beach destination. Located just outside of New York City, Long Island is a simple train ride from the heart of Manhattan. We’re excited to be working with Kristen and her team to promote all that Long Island has to offer UK travellers and communicate the fact that Long Island should be an integral component of any New York stay.”

Long Island offers visitors a wealth of history, culture, watersports and beaches to explore. The region is home to some of the oldest lighthouses in the United States including the Montauk Lighthouse, authorized by President George Washington in 1792.

General George Washington also formed the “Culper Spy Ring” on Long Island, a secret group of men and women who ferried information on British activity to the Continental Army, and many of the sites associated with the spy ring are open to the public.

Surfers flock to Long Island’s shores every year, as well as sailors, yachtsmen and fishermen. Across Long Island visitors can find top rated fishing charters, fishing tournaments and extensive watersport rentals including boats, jet skis, paddle boards, kayaks and more.

On  the destination’s north shore, travellers will find the Gold Coast mansions – the inspiration behind F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby’. Built during America’s “Roaring 20’s”, more than 200 of the mansions survive today and are available for overnight stays, tours and events. The Island is also home to countless celebrities and is featured in many popular films and television series.

Listed as one of the Top 10 Wine Regions in the World, Long Island has more than 60 wineries and benefits from moderate temperatures and ideal soil conditions. The region produces over 500,000 cases of wine annually with the most popular varietals including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.

Long Island is host to a number of major annual events including Hamptons Restaurant Week, Jones Beach Air Show, shark tournaments, Hamptons Classic Horse Show and the Oyster Festival. From the heritage of the North and the beaches of the South Shore; to the wineries and farms of the North Fork and the Hamptons on the South Fork, Long Island is a year-round destination for the best possible tourist experience.
