Dan Pfeiffer, former Senior Advisor and White House Communications Director for President Obama has joined California-based crowdfunding start-up, GoFundMe, as Vice President of Communications and Policy.
“All you have to do is spend a few minutes on GoFundMe’s website to see the powerful impact this platform is having on thousands of lives every day,” Pfeiffer said. “We already know how powerful digital and social connections can be, and here’s a company that has raised over one billion dollars from millions of donors over the last year alone. I am thrilled to be joining this extraordinary company that has so much potential.”
Pfeiffer’s addition comes at an important time for GoFundMe, complementing a new core leadership team announced earlier this year that includes Chairman and CEO Rob Solomon, formerly of Yahoo! and Groupon, President and Chief Products Officer David Hahn, formerly of LinkedIn, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer Hoang Vuong, formerly of Benchmark Capital and Chief Technology Officer Ujjwal Singh, formerly of Google. As Pfeiffer referenced, GoFundMe raised $1.09 billion from 16.1 million donors in 29 countries in 2015.
“This past year showed just how fast the GoFundMe platform is accelerating. We know that the more people who know about us, who understand our technology, the more good we can do. That’s why we are thrilled to have Dan on board,” said Rob Solomon, Chairman and CEO. “Millions of people have already seen that GoFundMe is the biggest, best way people can contribute to causes, and it’s only going to get bigger and better in the coming year.”
“It’s inspiring to see the sheer number of people raising money on GoFundMe to help those around them – their friends, their family, their community,” said David Hahn, President and Chief Product Officer. “Dan will help us capture and share the amazing stories from these heroes.”
Prior to GoFundMe, Dan Pfeiffer was one of President Obama’s longest serving advisors, first as traveling press secretary, and then as Communications Director on the 2008 Obama Campaign. In the White House he served as Deputy Communications Director, and became White House Communications Director in 2009. After the President’s reelection in 2012, Pfeiffer was appointed as Senior Advisor. During his White House tenure, Pfeiffer helped usher White House communications into the digital age, successfully leveraging social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Medium and Instagram, as well as digital media platforms Buzzfeed and Vox for presidential interviews.
A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Dan graduated from Georgetown University. He has previously worked for a number of Democratic politicians including Vice President Al Gore and Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. Pfeiffer has re-located to the San Francisco Bay Area.
