Wimdu Reveals Budget-Friendly World Cup Accommodation Options

Wimdu Reveals Budget-Friendly World Cup Accommodation Options
30 May 2014 James Brooke

Footie fans can save up to 84%* by booking private accommodation in Brazil.

FIFA World Cup fans can save up to 84 per cent* on accommodation by booking through the social accommodation website Wimdu.co.uk. Private accommodation is not only an affordable option but also sees money, usually destined for corporate hotels, back into the hands of the Brazilian public.

With FIFA block-booking many hotels, occupancy already at 90 per cent and prices sky high in all the host cities, football fans can expect to pay over 200 per cent more for a night in a hotel compared to this time last year.

Football fans staying in Salvador, which has seen an eye-watering average price increase of 212 per cent per person, per night, will have to fork out an average of £242 to stay in the coastal city.  Brazil’s vibrant and largest city, Rio de Janeiro, is seeing the same alarming rise with visitors set to part with an average of £286pp, per night. Sao Paulo will stage England’s crucial group game against Uruguay, and here the Three Lions’ legions of support face the prospect of a 60 per cent rise in prices, at an average nightly fee of over £156 per person.

Salvador’s private accommodation has also been hit by inflated prices but rooms are still an absolute steal at just £43pp* per night – a whopping £199 cheaper than a hotel stay. In Rio the average price is a wallet-friendly £49pp* per night and in Sao Paulo, England fans can breathe easy with an average cost of £23pp* per night.

With Wimdu.co.uk reporting a remaining 40 per cent availability in apartment rentals, supporters should head to the site to quickly save both money and the logistical nightmare of finding central accommodation within their chosen city.
