New leopard print briefs challenge the narrative of traditional female aesthetic.
Launching today, 28 of September 2022, WUKA’s Leopard Print period pants – the first print in the entire WUKA collection – is a new product with purpose.
Much more than just a pair of period pants and designed with young women, teens and tweens in mind, WUKA’s animal print launch is a statement to all women, girls and people who have periods.
Throughout history, women have been taught that their worth is dependent on the way they look. An analysis of 3.5 million books has shown that ‘Pretty’, ‘Cute’, ‘Beautiful’, ‘Gorgeous’ and ‘Sexy’ are some of the most common words used to describe girls and women in literature in the last 100 years, whilst men are described as ‘Brave’ and ‘Righteous’. This is literature taught in schools and read every day…
“Words play a huge part in our lives when growing up,” says Ruby Raut, CEO and Co-Founder of WUKA. “Words that describe us shape us as we develop our personalities, our ambitions, our attitudes and our dreams, so it’s time we write new terms into our future.
“With this new and first WUKA print, we want to expand and extend the adjectives that describe women. We are so much more than ‘pretty’ or ‘cute’ or ‘sexy’. Women are also powerful, brave, strong and fearless.
“Our newest product not only comes in a leopard print design, but also features these terms of affirmation as a small reminder of who we are each day, to help build up the next generation of girls as they grow into women. We want to familiarise girls with these more fitting adjectives so they can wear, believe and live these words.”
To mark the launch, WUKA has partnered with the Kujuwa Initiative, a social enterprise that trains and supports young people, families and educators in sexual reproductive health and rights and menstrual hygiene management, with the end result of ensuring that a monthly period doesn’t hinder girls from reaching their full potential.
For every pair of WUKA Leopard Print period pants sold during October, November and December 2022, a pair of WUKA will be donated to our future leaders via the Kujuwa initiative.
Joanna Maiden, CEO of Kujuwa Initiative says “Over 1 million girls miss school in Kenya each month because they cannot afford period products, so we are extremely excited to be partnering with WUKA to tackle period poverty and empower young women in Kenya. With WUKA’s support we will be able to support more young women to be independent and reach their full potential.”
Priced from £19.99, made from BCI Cotton and available in sizes ranging from 2XS to 3XL, the Leopard Print period pants come in WUKA’s two most popular styles – WUKA Bikini & WUKA High Waist. The undies also come in two flows – heavy and heavy overnight. Both come with a super absorbent gusset made up of many layers. The middle layers absorb and lock-in the blood, whilst the outer, moisture-wicking layers keep you feeling secure and dry. Each of the leak-proof layers are highly breathable to reduce any smells and chance of infection.
Key features of the Leopard Print:
- The high waist underwear is full coverage underwear and holds at least 20ml (or 4 tampons worth) of period blood.
- High Waist heavy flow has a gusset that sits only in the middle of the underwear and is great for day usage, whereas the gusset in the overnight heavy goes all the way to the back so is great for avoiding leaks when sleeping.
- Free from toxins and nasty chemicals
- Wear for up to 8 hours at a time
- Wear, pack away, change, wash and reuse!
- Made from BCI cotton
- Every pair of Leopard print gives back to girls in Need Via Kujuwa initiative.

About WUKA
Founded in 2017 by husband and wife team, Ruby Raut and Dave Slocombe, WUKA is the UK’s leading period wear brand and was the first in the UK to produce fully leak-proof reusable period underwear that completely replaces the need for pads and tampons. Just one pair of WUKA period pants can save 200 single-use plastic-riddled disposables from going to landfill or polluting our oceans.
WUKA stands for Wake Up Kick Ass; because nothing should hold women back when on their period. The brand strives to empower the menstruating population, improve access to quality, sustainable period products, eliminate period poverty, and remove period shame and stigma.
Offering a range of award-winning undies to suit different menstrual flows, WUKA period pants hold up to 12 tampons worth of period blood; the highest absorbency of any other period products. They are also available in the most extensive range of sizes on the market – from XXS, right up to 6XL.
WUKA also offers period leggings, period sports shorts, period swim bikini briefs, a period swimsuit and a number of period accessories and gifts, including a wearable hot water bottle, wash bags, period wellness sets, and starter kits for tweens and teens.
