  • The new low-cost Icelandic Airline and Nasdaq celebrate by ringing the stock market bell at 12,000 feet
  • PLAY’s share offering hugely successful, where demand was eightfold the supply

Today, 9 July 2021 at 9.30am, trading commenced in Fly Play shares on Nasdaq First North Growth Market Iceland. Market trading follows PLAY’s hugely successful share offering where demand was eightfold the supply.

Market trading is the latest in a long series of milestones for the company and the Icelandic tourism sector. Representatives of PLAY are thrilled with the figurative tailwind, something every airline hopes for.

These past few weeks PLAY, the bright red, low-cost, Icelandic airline has celebrated the arrival of their first and second aircraft, its inaugural flight from Reykjavik to London Stansted and back, the successful IPO, and of course the easing of travel restrictions to Iceland, and the lifting of social restrictions there.

The result was to celebrate market trading commencement with a conventional ringing of the stock market bell in what can only be described as an unconventional setting. The bell was rung at 12,000 feet over the glaciers and lava fields of the Icelandic highlands, much to the delight of onboard guests and staff.

The atmosphere all around the company is full of joy and celebration, so celebrating big milestones in a memorable way has never been more important.

“After a successful IPO, our inaugural flight and now trading of our shares, these past few weeks will be remembered for a long time here at PLAY. Our staff has worked wonders and we are well prepared to maximise the opportunities post-Covid. I think we can be allowed a little optimism now that we can start rebuilding Iceland’s aviation and tourism sectors,” said Mr. Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY.

Offering competitive fares from £30 one way, the new airline, with a fleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft, each with 192 economy seats, launched with its inaugural flight on 24 June from Reykjavik to London Stansted.
