Why Wyndham Grand Barbados Is the Perfect Option for Brits Seeking a Wellness-Focused Retreat in 2026 and Beyond

With wellness tourism currently being one of the fastest-growing travel sectors globally, there is no question that travellers are increasingly prioritising relaxing, restorative and regenerative retreats. For those in need of a calming escape to paradise in 2026 and beyond, Wyndham Grand Barbados, Sam Lord’s Castle All-Inclusive Resort could be just the ticket.
Tracey Archer, Spa Manager at the luxury all-inclusive resort, explains: “From its location away from the crowds to the elegant on-site Island Essence Spa, Wyndham Grand Barbados is set up perfectly to offer guests a peaceful holiday with wellness and relaxation at its core.
“In the last six months, we are thrilled to have made a number of additions to the resort’s wellness offering, including the introduction of ESPA treatments to the spa menu and the launch of a spa-specific dining option.”
Read on for Tracey’s insights on why Wyndham Grand Barbados offers the ultimate wellness retreat…
Location
Wyndham Grand Barbados is situated on the southeastern coast, a quieter part of the island which is the ideal spot for those seeking a calmer holiday experience. Just a convenient 15-minute drive from Grantley Adams International Airport, holidaymakers don’t have to contend with an exhaustive airport transfer following the long-haul flight.
What’s more, the Caribbean resort’s oceanfront location means that guests can enjoy the refreshing and clean sea breeze from the Atlantic Ocean.
The resort is also home to a beautiful and expansive beach, an idyllic setting where guests can unwind to the sounds of the ocean. It also provides the perfect spot for wellness activities; for example, those looking to keep fit whilst away can enjoy the weekly high-energy Beach Bootcamp workout.
ESPA-Exclusive in Barbados
The resort’s Island Essence Spa offers guests the ultimate experience of relaxation and rejuvenation.
With treatment options ranging from 25-minutes-long to full-day experiences and including manicures, pedicures, waxes, facials, body scrubs and massages, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy. A standout signature treatment at the resort is the Signature Warm Candle Massage in which a candle made of body butter is lit, that then melts onto the skin to be used as part of the massage.
As of August 2025, all our therapists are now ESPA certified which has enabled us to introduce a new range of ESPA treatments to the spa menu, including relaxing salt scrubs, detoxifying body wraps and hot stone massages. We are incredibly proud that ESPA is exclusive to Island Essence Spa in Barbados.
Island-Inspired Wellness
Every aspect of Island Essence Spa is inspired by its beautiful home of Barbados. For example, the spa is filled with the delicious smells of saffron and ginger thanks to its bespoke Ocean Breeze scent – this was created locally with a focus on utilising organic products. For guests wishing to take a slice of paradise home with them, the Ocean Breeze product line is available to buy at the resort and includes body oil, wash and lotion, soap, and burning oil for diffusers.
Welcome drinks at the spa include the traditional Bajan beverage Mauby (which is made from the bark of a Mauby tree), a refreshing drink which is thought to aid digestion and reduce inflammation.
Coconut is a central ingredient to various spa treatments too, namely, the Warm Candle Massage (which utilises toasted coconut or sandalwood), the Coconut Sugar Glow Body Scrub (which uses brown Bajan sugar mixed with coconut gratings) and the Bath Ritual (with coconut milk). In all such treatments, coconut helps to hydrate the skin.
Additional Wellness Experiences: Sound Baths, Fitness and Food
The floating crystal sound bath is a standout experience at Island Essence Spa. Floating on an airbed in the spa’s private pool, guests will enjoy the peaceful vibrational sound frequency of the 432 Hz crystal quartz singing bowls. This can help ease anxiety and aid inner tranquillity.
There is a gym where we offer daily complimentary fitness classes, from Yoga, Core Refinement and Body Balance Legs to HIIT and Full-Body Strength. Guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy sessions focused on personal training, stretching and nutrition.
In order to offer a more holistic experience for guests, we recently launched our delicious three-course spa menu with dishes such as the Sam Lord’s Salad, Citrus Grilled Fish and Mango White Chocolate Cheesecake.
We are continually evolving to cater to our guests’ requirements as well as in line with trends we’re seeing in the market.
