More than just a winter ski destination, LAAX in Switzerland has kick-started its summer activities calendar, with daily lift operations to carry adventurers to spectacular views along multiple trails including the Runca and Nagens trails.
Martina Calonder, Senior PR & Corporate Communications Manager, and lifetime resident of LAAX, says, “We’ve seen a year-on-year increase of 10% of British holidaymakers to LAAX, with more and more travellers seeking an adventure holiday to the traditional ‘fly and flop.’
“Historically, the region has been a summer destination, so it’s great to see a return to summer holidaying in the mountains and we’ve a jam-packed summer calendar to suit all types of travellers.”
From impressive nature hikes and thrilling mountain bike rides across diverse scenery to relaxing swimming in wild lakes and glamping in cozy cotton tents, LAAX invites holidaymakers to get back to nature this summer with an Alpine adventure.
Alpine Glamping Under the Stars
From 20 June through 27 September 2025, holidaymakers can discover the mountains in style with TCS Pop-Up Glamping. Located on Nagens, 2,000 metres above sea level, 20 chic safari-style tents create a mini village in the mountains making this an unmissable experience.
Guests will enjoy a personally curated breakfast box and three-course dinner at Stalla Alp Nagens Restaurant, plus coffee, water, and tea throughout their stay. Conveniently located near UNESCO Natural Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona site, and in close proximity to hiking and biking trails, climbing excursions, and natural swimming spots, glamping at TCS Pop-Up Glamping is a special way to connect with nature.
Wild Swimming in Glacial Lakes
Dive into relaxing wild swimming in ‘Lag la Cauma’ or ‘Lake of Midday Rest’. Voted Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain lake for its turquoise-blue waters and calming atmosphere, Lake Cauma is a favourite amongst locals. Fed by glacial streams, the lake maintains a refreshing 17-20 degrees Celsius, making it the perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying a midday break.
Restaurant Ustria La Cauma positioned on the lake offers regional specialities and Mediterranean cuisines for those hungry after swimming, though pre-booking is advised during the summer evenings.
Hiking and Biking
Hikers and bikers will never want for more with 330 kilometres of bike trails and a 250-kilometre hiking network. The Trutg dil Flem water trail offers 13 kilometres of breathtaking views along the river Flem. Take in unusual rock formations and the peaceful sounds of the wild mountain stream while crossing seven award-winning bridges. Plus, don’t miss ‘The Rhine Gorge’, a 400 metre-deep and 14-kilometre-long gorge, which can be viewed from above from all directions. Known as the ‘Swiss Grand Canyon’, it is one of the most spectacular landscapes in Graubünden and is unique in the Alpine region with its wild gorges and rugged rock formations.
The UNESCO Natural Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona in LAAX is a must-visit during the summer months. Here, guests can understand how the Alps were formed and discover the space where ancient rock pushed over younger rock to create this diverse habitat. With each exploration of the area, visitors will discover something new as the area encompasses over 300 square kilometres. A trip to the Sardona visitor pavilion at the Segneshütte can help to fully understand and appreciate the history of the Alpine mountains and its landscape.
Mountain bikers will discover an incredible natural playground in LAAX, 1,100 and 3,000 metres above sea level. With every type of terrain and long or short ride options, the various trails flow throughout the mountain for diverse riding. With a variety of bikes available for rent, riders will find the perfect bike for their needs. And with the FlemXpress – the world’s first on-demand gondola – fitting up to five riders and their bikes, there’s no anxious wait to reach the mountain top.
