Today at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Mirus Aircraft Seating has launched its revolutionary new fixed back economy seat, the Kestrel.
Blending unequalled levels of passenger living space and comfort in an ultra-lightweight fixed back seat, Kestrel incorporates the signature Mirus design philosophy of simplicity and elegance to enhance the appearance and redefine the living space and comfort propositions in the economy cabin.
Designed specifically for short to medium range fleets, and to withstand the rigorous and diverging demands from ultra-low cost to premium carriers, Kestrel weighs just 7.5 kilograms fully dressed and has a 28-inch seat pitch to deliver class-leading passenger living space, solving the problem of how airlines can achieve maximum economy cabin densification without compromising passenger comfort and space.
As with all Mirus seats, Kestrel features the Mirus contemporary and elegant design DNA that meets the most demanding of airline branding needs through a wide range of custom trim and finish options. Kestrel is also highly configurable with additional features such as USB ports, PED holders and multiple literature pocket options to help the airline achieve a unique passenger experience.
With multiple patents pending, the clever next-generation design offers high levels of maintainability with extended durability testing, together with a low part count and reduced layering of components, meaning key parts can be changed quickly – thus ensuring the cost of ownership remains the lowest available.
As with all Mirus seats, the unique Mirus Care extended warranty option can be chosen, which dramatically lowers lifetime cost of ownership and means typically airlines can expect to have their investment returned within a few years.
CEO of Mirus Aircraft Seating, Ben McGuire, said: “We have adopted a zero-compromise mentality with the design of Kestrel to offer maximum living space, privacy and comfort whilst delivering an elegant, modern aesthetic. Whilst initially intended for the shorter-range market, the exceptional comfort and living space Kestrel offers means we are seeing strong interest from airlines flying much longer routes as they seek maximum cabin densification without compromising passenger comfort. We are working with a group of airlines in strategic markets and expect to announce our initial launch customers later this year.
“Currently available for Airbus A320 and B737 aircraft types, Kestrel is a game-changer in enhancing cabin appearance, reducing weight, reducing cost of ownership and extending seat life compared to previous generation economy seats, and probably all of the seats being offered in the market today.”
Mirus is offering viewings of the new seat to a select number of airline delegates at the Aircraft Interiors Expo at stand 1UB30. To arrange a viewing, delegates can email [email protected].
Kestrel joins Mirus’ flagship product, the Hawk, in the company’s growing range of aircraft seating products. Over 120,000 Hawk seats are in service with airlines around the world, with major customers including Air Asia and TUI Group.
