Rooster Appointed to Drive Christmas Giving by Match-Funding Platform, The Big Give – One Donation, Twice The Impact

Rooster Appointed to Drive Christmas Giving by Match-Funding Platform, The Big Give – One Donation, Twice The Impact
17 November 2020 James Brooke

The Big Give, the UK’s leading match-funding charity, has appointed Rooster to boost much-needed awareness of its annual Christmas Challenge campaign, at a time when the charity sector has been so sorely hit and donations are most needed.

Founded in 2007 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Alec Reed CBE, the Big Give is a crowdfunding platform that provides a secure way for major donors and philanthropists to support charities both big and small across the UK, through match-funding

This year’s Christmas Challenge saw record numbers of charities applying, highlighting that giving back at Christmas is needed more than ever. More than 750 charities will participate in the campaign, a 30% increase from 2019.

During the week-long campaign, which runs 1st – 8th December 2020, donations to participating charities will be matched on a first-come first-served basis by Big Give ‘Champions’, including The Reed Foundation, The Childhood Trust, The Julia & Hans Rausing Trust and Candis Club, amongst many others. Since its launch in 2007, the Big Give has raised over £135 million for charity projects.

Rooster will be drumming up publicity of the Big Give’s campaign in the run up to its launch and shining a spotlight on the charities being supported, by highlighting how donations from last year’s campaign benefited them. At a time when many small charities could cease to exist due to lack of donations in 2020, Rooster will communicate the importance of supporting them this Christmas.

To reflect the Big Give’s campaign message “one donation, twice the impact”, Rooster is matching the project’s PR campaign with pro bono activity by doubling the team hours spent on the campaign.

Alex Day, Director at the Big Give, said: “Charities are at the forefront of tackling problems that so many people have been affected by this year, due to Covid-19, and their support has never been needed more. We’re aiming to make our 2020 Christmas Challenge the biggest yet, which is why we chose Rooster to hit the ground running and help us build longer-term relationships with donors, and highlight to the general public the importance of giving to charities this year, no matter how big or small the donation.”

Following previous third sector experience, handling the press office for crowdfunding platforms GoFundMe and JustGiving, Rooster is dedicated to championing these crucial charities while sharing their stories sensitively.

James Brooke, Managing Director of Rooster PR, said: “In what has been an incredibly difficult year we recognise the strength of community support, which is why we wanted to volunteer our own additional time to this essential campaign. It is a joy to not only promote the Big Give, but the work of the hundreds of charities that benefit from public donations.”
