GoFundMe Campaign Supporting Florida Shooting Victims is Fastest Growing and Largest in History, Raising More Than $2 million in One Day
14 June 2016 James Brooke

#PulseVictimsFund GoFundMe campaign launched to support the victims of the Pulse Shooting in Orlando has raised over $2 million in one day making it the largest and fastest crowd-funding appeal ever, demonstrating the positive out-pouring of support around the world following the heinous attack.

Equality Florida, a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights, non-profit, organisation, created the GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the victims of the horrific shooting at the Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Florida.

The organisation has made the appeal the official fundraising campaign for the attack and every penny raised will be distributed directly to the victims and their families. The organisation is working with a team of attorneys and experts, including the National Centre for Victims of Crime in the US to ensure funds are distributed correctly.

Equality Florida issued the following statement: “We are reeling from the tragic news that a gunman opened fire on the 2am capacity crowd at Pulse leaving 50 people dead and over 50 injured according to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. We are heartbroken and angry that senseless violence has once again destroyed lives in our state and in our country. Please contribute and share this page. We urge the GoFundMe community to continue to support the victims and everyone affected by this senseless tragedy.”

Bobby Whithorne, spokesperson for GoFundMe.com, said: “Today, GoFundMe donated $100,000 to the campaign supporting victims of the horrific shooting at the Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Florida. Started by Equality Florida, an LGBT advocacy organization, the campaign is the largest and fastest growing in GoFundMe’s history, so far raising more than $2 million. Our thoughts are with the victims and all those affected by this terrible attack. To view the campaign, visit this page: https://www.gofundme.com/pulsevictimsfund.”
