1 in 5 Men Consume Month’s Worth of Alcohol during a Stag Weekend

1 in 5 Men Consume Month’s Worth of Alcohol during a Stag Weekend

A survey by stag and hen company Last Night of Freedom has revealed that 1 in 5 men consume nearly a month’s worth of the recommended alcohol allowance whilst celebrating on a stag do.

Whilst government guidelines suggest a weekly limit of 14 units per week, the survey results show 19.3 per cent of those attending stag parties admit to consuming over 50 units throughout the weekend – the equivalent of 50 shots of tequila, 5 bottles of wine, or 1.25 litres of vodka.

A quarter (24.3 per cent) of men surveyed drank 20-29 units over the weekend, and 10 per cent drank 0-9. Of the hens that were surveyed, 5.3 per cent admitted to consuming 50+ units throughout the weekend, and over half (52.8 per cent) drank fewer than 19 units during the celebrations.

Whilst drinking has become synonymous with stag and hen weekends, managing director of Last Night of Freedom Matt Mavir is encouraging parties to place more emphasis on partaking in once-in-a-lifetime experiences to mark the occasion: “It’s not all that often that you get to celebrate stag and hen dos, and whilst drinking is going to play a considerable part in the weekend’s antics, I think it’s time to put more into the occasion than just sheer alcohol consumption. Tempering drinking time with once-in-a-lifetime activities is the perfect way to signify the importance of the weekend. After all, you are (hopefully) only going to do it once.”

As well as organising traditional stag and hen weekends in the UK and abroad, Last Night of Freedom offers a variety of experiences and activities to help stags and hens celebrate their send off from the single life in memorable style, including: tank driving; fire breathing workshops; bridge swinging; baby bull running; prison experience; husky sledge; mini tank paintball; and hovercraft racing.

“Stag and hen dos are cause for real celebration; they mean so much more than just a drinking session,” Matt continues. “Especially these days, when many trips involve travelling abroad, it seems wasteful not to make the most out of it. Drinking and the spontaneous atmosphere that goes with it are very important for many stag and hen weekends, we just think it’s better to remember how you spent your send off from the single life – especially if it’s experiencing one of the exciting trips we have on offer!”
