This weekend, the UK will experience King Charles III’s first official birthday celebration, with the annual ‘Trooping the Colour’ taking place in London on Saturday 17 June 2023. Ahead of the grand parade, the UK’s premium value no-fly cruise line, Ambassador Cruise Line, asked the British public which Royals they would most like to have a drink with on His Majesty’s big day – and the results reveal that the King is third in line when it comes to which Royal people most want to help them get into the party spirit.

Toast of the town in first place is Catherine, Princess of Wales, with 14% of Brits surveyed opting ‘tequila’ few hours drinking with her over all the other Royals. Catherine was most popular amongst females aged 35-44, and had the most support from Northern Ireland (22%), England’s South West (17%), North West (17%) and Wales (17%). Catherine, aka Kate, is said to be a fan of white wine, and is even known to have enjoyed the odd pint of Guinness!

Tied in second place was William, Prince of Wales, and Harry, Duke of Sussex, with 12% of Brits saying they would ‘schnapp’ at the chance to drink with one of the two brothers, even with Harry remaining mostly ‘absinthe’ from the UK in recent times. Prince William was more popular amongst males (15%), while Harry was more popular with females (13%). Despite their differences, the brothers have been known to enjoy pints of beer together on multiple occasions, but more recently Prince William confessed his love of vodka cocktails – suggesting his taste for tipples may be becoming more sophisticated with age and rank.

Harry’s past reputation as a party animal has no doubt helped him remain a popular choice of bar buddy if a drink’s going spare. And, the 12% of us who said we’d like to enjoy an alcopop or two with the Duke of Sussex was 9% more than those who said they’d rather partake with his ‘WKD’ stepmother, Queen Camilla.

Although many might have expected our new King to be top of the list, his Majesty ranked third alongside former rugby star, Mike Tindall. Almost one in ten (8%) Brits want to share a drink with the rugby player turned royal, the same amount who would enjoy an ‘old fashioned’ chat with the most senior royal himself, who is understood to be partial to a martini as his beverage of choice – a classy concoction fit for a King!

It was horses for courses for Princess Anne, who polled in sixth place of preferred drinking partners, with as many saying Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, suits equally well. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie sit at the bottom of the list, but it is good to see that, when it came to votes, the sisters received an equal measure.

The overall rankings are:

1. Catherine, Princess of Wales – 14%
2.= William, Prince of Wales – 12%
2.= Harry, Duke of Sussex – 12%
4.= King Charles III – 8%
4.= Mike Tindall – 8%
6.= Megan, Duchess of Sussex – 7%
6.= Anne, Princess Royal – 7%
7.= Zara Phillips – 4%
8.= Camilla, Queen Consort of the UK – 3%
9.= Princess Eugenie – 1%
9.= Princess Beatrice – 1%

Enjoy a Purple Reign with Ambassador’s Signature Cocktail
One might assume King Charles will be supping a libation this coming weekend, along with many people from across the UK, on land and at sea. Those currently sailing on Ambassador’s two ships – Ambience and Ambition – can raise a glass to his good health when onboard while enjoying a celebratory sip of the cruise line’s Ambassador Cocktail, which – being in the cruise line’s ‘Allium’ purple brand colours – might meet with Royal approval.

If a cool cocktail tempts your tastebuds and you’re not sailing with Ambassador on Saturday, those inspired to whip up Ambassador’s signature drink at home to mark our Monarch’s birthday can find the recipe below:

  • Lime Juice (1cl)
  • Cranberry Juice (1cl)
  • Blue Curacao (Dash for colour)
