The Cyprus Tourism Organisation Initiative Sold Out in Less Than a Week.

Less than a week after the announcement of its upcoming launch, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation’s (CTO) halloumi-themed pop-up, “Say Hallou-mi to Cyprus” is already fully booked.

But halloumi-lovers need not despair. The restaurant, which features halloumi in every course on the menu – including a dessert of halloumi ice cream – has now been extended in response to unprecedented demand.

The pop-up, which is taking place at 100 Hoxton to showcase Cyprus’ national cheese and entice people to visit the island, will now open for two weeks from Monday 13th November. Created especially for the event by Executive Chef Francis Puyat, the menu comprises an array of halloumi-inspired dishes including:

  • Halloumi and cauliflower fritters with a lime pickle yoghurt (£6)
  • A fresh grilled courgette and halloumi salad with fennel, pine nuts, harissa, honey & lemon (£7)
  • A chargrilled halloumi flatbread with butternut & dukkah spices (£6)
  • Crumbed halloumi fingers with a tomato chilli jam (£6)
  • & to finish off, the best halloumi ice cream (£5) you will ever taste!
  • Diners can also choose one of two Cypriot inspired cocktails by Mixologist Chad Canning formerly of Nopi: a harissa Bloody Mary (£8) or a Cilantro & Ginger Martini (£8).

Diners will be able to try each dish individually or opt for the full tasting experience with every item on a sharing platter for two people, priced at £26 during happy hour.

The CTO’s UK Director, Orestis Rossides said: “We’re delighted to see such a positive response to the launch of our ‘Say Hallou-mi to Cyprus’ restaurant. Londoners clearly share our love of the Cypriot national cheese, halloumi, and we hope they might also be tempted to visit our beautiful island to learn what else Cyprus has to offer – from our legendary hospitality, rich cuisine and award-winning local wines to our glorious coastline and stunning mountain villages.”

On the continued growth in tourism to the island, he continued: “Tourism is an important sector for Cyprus and we’re proud to announce that 2017 is on track to be another record-breaking year. Our longer-term goal is to reach six million global tourist arrivals by 2030 and we are committed to supporting this strong growth with the necessary infrastructure.”

Andrew Zilouf, Director of 100 Hoxton, said: “The response to our partnership with the CTO has been incredible – we hoped the pop-up would be popular but we never expected to be fully booked in just five days. With the phones still ringing off the hook, we couldn’t disappoint all the people who still want to taste our innovative menu showcasing the versatility of Cypriot halloumi and are pleased to announce the pop-up will now be live for two weeks.”

Theo Paphitis, who is supporting the campaign, said: “Cyprus and its food are true passions of mine and the pop-up restaurant will bring the delicious Cypriot cheese, halloumi, to every dish on the menu…even the dessert!  I’m sure many other people will fall in love with the Cypriot national cheese once they’ve tried it – and perhaps even visit Cyprus to discover the rest of the island’s delicious cuisine and wine.”

Diners will be able to book tables during the following times from Monday 13th November until it disappears (for good) on 26th November:

  • Mon-Thursday evenings from 5-9.30pm
  • Fri-Sat from 5.30-10pm
  • Sat-Sun from 11am-2.30pm
  • & Sunday evening from 3-7.30pm

The pop-up is expecting huge demand so customers are strongly advised to book asap. To make a booking, visit www.100restaurants.co.uk/100-hoxton-reservations/.
