Shaking off its industrial past, the vibrant Pennsylvanian metropolis has no shortage of sights to see, places to eat at and lively events going on, ensuring a visit there will be a memorable one.
To help inspire those wanting to visit the evolving metropolitan, WOW air has compiled a list of recommendations of things to do, to make your trip a successful one!
A World-class Art Scene
Did you know Pittsburgh is the birthplace of pop art icon Andy Wharhol? A must-see for art enthusiasts, downtown Pittsburgh is home to The Andy Warhol Museum, the largest single‑artist museum in the world. Fallingwater, the architectural masterpiece by Frank Lloyd Wright, is also located just an hour out of the city.
Culinary Delights
Zagat named Pittsburgh the “Number 1 Food City” in the US and it‘s not hard to see why. For a real flavour of the city‘s rich gastronomical offering take a ‘Burgh Bits and Bites‘ food tasting and walking tour to explore the history and culinary delights in many of Pittsburgh’s most unique neighborhoods – there‘s said to be over 90 to explore
Unmissable Skyline
Commonly referred to as the “City of Bridges” – due to a whopping 446 bridges connecting Pittsburgh (three more than Venice) – and the “City with an Entrance”, Pittsburgh’s skyline bursts into view as soon as you land at Pittsburgh International Airport. For a panoramic view of the city, adventurous travellers can take one of the two inclines up to Mt. Washington, cameras at the ready!
Something for all the Family
With so many fun attractions to explore, families will be spoilt for choice. Favourites include the Carnegie Science Center, which has over 250 interactive exhibits, the National Aviary, Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, perfect for wildlife lovers.
WOW air’s inaugural service to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) will depart on 16 June 2017, with the service operating from London Gatwick, Bristol and Edinburgh (via KEF). The approximate total journey time from London Gatwick is 11 hours, including stopover.
