Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London celebrates Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 155th Birthday on 22 May with a host of exciting events, culminating in an exclusive and intimate theatre performance and author Q&A, raising funds for The National Literacy Trust and Undershaw Preservation Trust.
It is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 155th birthday on 22 May and in honour of this special date in the Sherlock calendar, Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London and specialist Sherlock Holmes publisher MX Publishing, will be paying tribute to the renowned Scottish crime fiction writer through a fun packed programme of Sherlock themed activities.
The day’s events will kick off with the launch of Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London’s dedicated Sherlock Afternoon tea for a special Conan Doyle birthday tea party on the day.
To mark the occasion of this momentous anniversary, guests will be able to sample the all-new Afternoon tea, priced at £19.90 and including delicious Victorian inspired sandwiches, sweet treats, scones, and served with a classic “Scandal in Bohemia” gin Martini, at half price, together with a complimentary slice of birthday cake, designed and baked especially by the Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London’s kitchen.
The birthday celebrations will culminate in a unique Sherlock Holmes theatre and literary evening, with an exclusive performance of ‘The Singular Exploits of Sherlock Holmes’ by world famous theatre company ‘Don’t Go Into The Cellar’, who have been selling out venues across the UK this year.
Following the performance, guests will enjoy an exclusive live interview and Q&A with multi-award winning author, Diane Madsen, about her latest novel ‘The Conan Doyle Notes – The Secret of Jack The Ripper’, launching on the day. Diane will be talking to the audience live from her world book launch in Chicago.
A prize draw to win signed first editions of Madsen’s The Conan Doyle Notes and a raffle offering guests the chance to win several prizes, including a custom designed LEGO 221b Baker Street collector’s kit, inspired by the famous Sherlock Holmes abode, an overnight at the hotel, and signed first editions of Sherlock related books will also take place on the night.
The evening event will take place between 6.30pm and 9.30pm at Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London. Guests purchasing tickets will be raising much needed funds for the National Literacy Trust, helping to raise literacy among the UK’s most disadvantaged communities and for the Undershaw Preservation Trust, who recently hit headlines by successfully saving Conan Doyle’s former home, ‘Undershaw’ in Hindhead, Surrey, after nearly 10 years of campaigning. Dedicated to commemorating the legacy of Conan Doyle and preserving the history of the Grade II building, the Trust announced only a month ago that local special school and charitable trust, Stepping Stones, will be occupying Undershaw. Funds raised hereafter will help the Undershaw Preservation Trust to work closely with Stepping Stones, watch developments, and ensure that all the detail with regard to the historical legacy and character of Undershaw is preserved intact.
Guests buying tickets for the event will also benefit from discounted drinks throughout the evening, an exclusive offer for overnight stays at the hotel, and an exclusive lifetime discount on purchases from the newly launched Watson’s Lounge bookshop; a dedicated online Sherlock Holmes themed bookstore.
Priced at £10 per person, tickets will include:
- Live, one hour theatre performance of The Singular Exploits of Sherlock Holmes
- Sherlock Holmes themed cocktail and canapés
- Live author Q&A
- Entry into Prize Draw
- £2.50 Donation to the National Literacy Trust
