“Our giving community has always been quick to leap into action when tragedy strikes anywhere in the world. We’re already receiving enquiries from our community about what they can do to help the victims of the horrendous terrorist attacks that took place in Brussels this morning,” said GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon.
“We started this GoFundMe campaign to quickly channel all of the outpouring of online support for the victims and their families. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at GoFundMe go out to the people of Belgium, the victims of this terrible act and their families.”
GoFundMe will direct all funds raised via this campaign to an official charity for the victims and their families once one has been designated.
The GoFundMe community has a history of coming together in times of crisis:
- $7 million (£493,8271) was raised on GoFundMe the aftermath of Nepal earthquake.
- $150,000 (£105,809) raised after the mass shooting in San Bernardino in late 2015 for the victims and their families.
- Nearly half a million dollars was raised for the Flint Water Crisis on GoFundMe in a matter of weeks.
