The architect for the apartments, locally-renowned Teodoro Cabrilla Architects, has carefully considered the sites natural surroundings and employed a number of sustainably-focused techniques and materials to create a perfect symbiosis between luxury and sustainability.
Commenting on the initial approach to The Sky Marbella project, founder of Teodoro Cabrilla Architects, Teodoro Cabrilla said, “One of our basic principles is the use of local and some recycled materials, and the optimisation of natural resources, without renouncing new construction technologies and innovative materials that help create the comfort of a luxury home.
“In this particular project, we have integrated the passive house with aerothermal energy for hot water supply and electrification panels for the communal areas. White façades made of materials that allow ventilation, the use of water sheets, large double-height glazed doors and windows to make the most of natural are just some of these elements.”

Architectural responsibility for the villas at The Sky Marbella, has been entrusted to highly-esteemed and Marbella-based firm, Manuel Burgos Architects. The two architects are working in tandem to achieve this high level of sustainable luxury across both the apartments and villas, ensuring consistency throughout the project.
Commenting on the project, founder Manuel Burgos said: “Our focus on sustainability manifests itself in the very design of the homes, prioritising maximum comfort of its inhabitants with exceptional energy efficiency. The climatisation has been carefully planned to assure a homogenous temperature in all the spaces, minimising energy loss and optimising consumption.
“A notable aspect is the implemented HVAC system, which is so efficient that it doesn’t require the installation of solar panels. This innovative technology allows for smart energy management, reducing dependence on external sources and promising a comfortable and sustainable environment for residents.
“Measures have also been taken to maximise the efficiency of resources, seeking to reduce the environmental impact to the minimum possible without sacrificing the quality of life of the residents. The integral design of the homes isn’t only centred around comfort and luxury, but also around environmental responsibility, ensuring a harmonious equilibrium between the wellbeing of their inhabitants and respect for the environment.
The development itself is framed by the El Madronal mountains to the north, with magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea to the South which has greatly influenced the developments biophilic design approach.
Cabrilla adds, “This project has been greatly influenced by the location and the study of natural light. The light surrounds the U-shaped Mountain range overlooking the sea and creates this subtle curved effect on the different levels of the apartments, which are integrated into the surrounding nature. We have created a ‘patio’ concept which previously only existed in the villas and integrated them into the apartments.
“One of our main challenges has been not to encroach too much on the site and respect the group vegetation between the succession of built volumes. Our mission has been to sculpt with the mountain as our rock and the Mediterranean Sea as our horizon”.
Whilst a contributing factor, sculpting a sophisticated home in harmony with its surroundings alone is not enough to achieve true sustainability. There are a range of features at The Sky Marbella which help make it truly eco-friendly and sustainable. Rainwater recovery for irrigation and maintenance, aerothermal energy for air conditioning, photovoltaic solar panels that provide clean energy, and green roofs and landscaped courtyards to help with thermal comfort are just a few examples.

The Sky Marbella is certainly not the first development in the Costa del Sol region to focus on blending luxury and sustainability together, and certainly won’t be the last. Director of Sales at The Sky Marbella, Alfonso Lacruz believes this established trend is down to two key reasons,” In the wider context, many people seem to be achieving wealth at a younger age than they did in the past, perhaps down to the rise in things like social media marketing and technology, and I believe this is having an impact on this trend.
“When buying real estate, people generally look for a home that reflects their personality and values. The average age of purchasers in the Costa del Sol region has been slowly decreasing, and many younger generations have very passionate views on climate change and sustainability, therefore they want their homes to mirror this.
“Added to that, is the increase in investment by people from Nordic countries like Denmark and Sweden. These countries have been leading the way for many years now in sustainable real estate practices, and their increased presence in the Costa del Sol has had a direct impact on the market here.”
Construction of 16 luxury villas is now underway and are designed to offer residents optimum privacy and security in addition to first rate sustainability. They are priced between €6 million and €9.9 million and expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
In addition to the villas, construction of 50 apartments is expected to be completed in the second of half 2026 and will be available to purchase for between €1.5 million and €6.5 million.
