Family-owned hostel group, Clink Hostels, has launched Dublin’s newest accommodation space – Clink i Lár – a 628-bed property located in the city centre. Following a prolonged shortage of low-cost tourist accommodation in the city, Clink Hostels is providing a solution for travellers seeking an affordable and central place to stay.
With two established and popular hostels in London and three in Amsterdam, Clink i Lár is the sixth addition to Clink Hostels’ portfolio since its inception in 1997. It is the first property located in the Republic of Ireland, the hometown of Clink Hostels’ co-founders, sisters Anne and Shelly Dolan.
Just two months since opening, Clink i Lár is already one of the top-performing hostels in Dublin and is listed in the top 10 search results for leading OTAs, including Booking.com.
Newly appointed Chief Operating Officer at Clink Hostels, Marc Roebersen, says: “Since Clink i Lár’s official opening in October 2023, we’ve seen huge demand and strong occupancy levels – suggesting that a new, high-inventory accommodation option was much-needed in Dublin, a city that has experienced supply shortfall and high occupancy rates for some time.
“We project that average accommodation prices in Dublin city centre will reduce as a result of the new property, which will be beneficial to all travellers hoping to experience the city on a budget.
“Clink Hostels is also leading the way on revenue management innovation in the city. We work closely with a revenue management partner and have a long-term approach to ensure that our room rates are as close to optimal level as possible. This is rare in Ireland’s hospitality industry, where many hotels and hostels have a reactive, short-term approach which isn’t sustainable and negatively impacts the guest experience.”
The new property also comes as Clink Hostels announces a 29% revenue increase in 2023 vs 2022, as well as a 22% increase in the average daily rate (ADR). Direct bookings were also up significantly at 30% year on year.
These results were above projected levels, with Clink citing a growing demand for affordable accommodation as well as business innovation as key drivers of success.
In 2023, Clink Hostels launched its new website, with engagement up 50% year on year to date. As part of the new website launch, Clink developed a bespoke booking engine to drive more direct bookings, enabling a more user-friendly and guest-focused experience. The site also features a chatbot tool to automate the customer query and request process, at a rate of 85% – helping simplify and speed up the customer journey.
