New holiday packages with Saddle Skedaddle
Ferry operator DFDS has teamed up with revered cycling experts Saddle Skedaddle, encouraging Brits to get active this autumn through inclusive cycling holiday packages to Germany, France and Holland.
The new partnership allows cyclists of all abilities to book a comprehensive package for their next continental getaway. This includes a ferry crossing on one of DFDS’s routes from Dover-Calais, Dover-Dunkirk, or Newcastle-Amsterdam, as well as all accommodation and a full cycling route itinerary. Optional additions also include luggage transfers between hotels, plotted maps and directions, as well as suggestions for where to eat along the way, making a cycling holiday smoother than ever.
Travelling by ferry means that holidaymakers have the option to take their car and store bikes on the back of the car or roof rack, or travel by bike from the outset and start the holiday as soon as you cycle off the ferry. There is also the option to hire bikes at your destination if preferred.
With autumn approaching there’s no better time to go, as the best prices and cycling conditions in Europe can be found when travelling either side of peak times. Racing enthusiasts can also follow in the tracks of cycling greats as a number of key races take place in October including the Tour de l’Eurometropole, Tre Valli Varesine, Milano-Torino, Gran Piemonte and Paris-Tours.
A host of itineraries are available, specifically designed to encompass each region’s most beautiful towns, villages and natural landscapes. DFDS have selected their favourite five Saddle Skedaddle tours for inspiration:
This self-guided holiday starts and ends in Tours, taking you on a journey through the stunning castles and landscapes of the Loire Valley. It’s an 8 day adventure that will give you all of the best bits of this magnificent region.
Follow the canals and waterways of the beautiful Burgundy region. You’ll visit medieval towns and outstanding landscapes on this gentle cycling holiday. It’s mostly flat terrain which makes it ideal for beginners.
Windmills and beaches, Holland
An easy cycling holiday, discover Holland in true Dutch style: on your bike. Your journey begins and ends in Amsterdam and you spend your nights in a comfortable barge on Holland’s famous waterways. You’ll also visit forests, beaches and quaint towns.
Green heart, Holland
With a tour guide you’ll explore the heart of Holland, including the historic windmills of Kinderdijk. There will also be time for you to cycle through the 16th century towns of Haarlem, Leiden and more. All of your meals are included, too, on this bike and barge holiday.
Moselle Valley, Germany
Through the tranquil Moselle Valley, take yourself on a journey round meandering riverside paths as the magnificent German landscape opens up around you. As well as discovering rural Germany, your self-guided holiday will also take you to the medieval town of Koblenz.
