WOW air’s First A330neo Enters Final Assembly Stage

WOW air’s First A330neo Enters Final Assembly Stage
11 April 2018 James Brooke

The low-cost airline is expanding its fleet with increasingly efficient aircraft.

WOW air’s fleet expansion will soon see the addition of a new A330neo, after the Airbus aircraft entered the final stage of assembly.

The introduction of the new airliner is part of WOW air’s fleet modernisation towards greater efficiency. The A330-900 is part of the new generation Widebody Family and is powered by Rolls Royce Trent 7000 engines with new composite nacelle, new ‘fully-faired’ titanium pylon, new wings and an Airspace cabin.

The A330neo’s most visible new features include specially developed curved wingtip Sharklets – which draw on A350 XWB technology and extend the wingspan to 64m. New technology sees the Trent 7000s deliver double-digit fuel burn improvements and quieter operation, presenting a high bypass ratio (10:1 versus the previous generation’s 5:1), a large 112-inch diameter front fan and a new ‘zero-splice’ inlet.

Heading into service for WOW air at the end of 2018, the A330neo will slot into the fleet on long haul routes, such as California. WOW air already has one of the youngest aircraft fleets in the world, with an average age of just 2.9 years.

WOW air presently reaches 38 destinations throughout Europe and North America. UK customers can make the most of departures from both London Gatwick and Edinburgh, while London Stansted will become a new departure point in April 2018, with new routes to the USA also launching this spring, including Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Dallas.
