Fashion Entrepeneurs Keep it Far From Lowkey

Fashion Entrepeneurs Keep it Far From Lowkey
8 May 2019 James Brooke

Two Birmingham fashion students have set up their own clothing company, with plans on dominating the urban fashion market.

Friends since school, Tom Serby, 23, and Jordan Bullock, 24, had always dreamed of running their own clothing brand but felt their lack of resources and knowledge would put an end to their dreams. Fast forward to today and the pair are Co-Founders of edgy streetwear brand, Lowkey.

Tom and Jordan study at Birmingham City University and are Student Roost residents at The Heights.

Things started small for the two entrepreneurs, with their first product line consisting of a range of t-shirts, a hoodie and a hat. However, the brand has gained serious momentum and the pair are now in talks with several retailers to stock their Lowkey clothing line.

“It wasn’t all plain sailing,” said Tom. “We had a clear vision of what we wanted Lowkey to be, but with little experience in design or running a business we had to learn everything as we went along.”

The two entrepreneurs said their fashion design course at the Birmingham City University helped them develop their skills and learn to work in a creative way around other creative people.

Jordan added: “The people on our course and those that we live with at The Heights are incredibly supportive of what we are trying to achieve and are always willing to help, be that by buying samples, modelling our clothes or simply helping us get the word out. The Heights houses over 1,000 residents and the communal social spaces are perfect for building relationships and expanding our network.”

Lowkey will be releasing its new range of clothing in May 2019.

Matthew Hannah, Operations Manager at The Heights, said: “Tom and Jordan are fantastic ambassadors for entrepreneurialism and we’re proud to give them all the support we can to help them on their journey.

“The guys are hugely popular with both staff and residents and in the short time they’ve been staying with us have become a central part of life at The Heights. Everyone at Student Roost is rooting for them”.
