Flightgiftcard reveals the European festivals to rival the UK’s this summer.

Festival season is nearly upon us and, while many of us love the idea of escaping the daily grind to enjoy a blur of ‘summer’ days and nights revelling in a party atmosphere and singing or dancing along to our favourite bands in a field full of likeminded folk, spending your hard-earned holiday allowance in a veritable mudbath might not be quite so enticing…

Headlines predicting ‘grim and unsettled conditions’ for some of the UK’s top music festivals are already abundant. So why take the risk?

Whether you’re planning a summer filled with electro-beats or looking for a more chilled-out vibe, Flightgiftcard, the world’s only cross-airline gift card, has put together it’s definitive guide to the best of this year’s sunshine-filled European music festivals to rival those of the Great British ‘Summertime’.

EXIT, Novi Sad, 4-7 July

Not sure you can rely on London to serve up the rays you want at Lovebox this year? How does an award-winning music festival held in a fortress and average temperatures of around 23 degrees sound?

From 4-7 July EXIT festival, held at the Petrovardin Fortress in the city of Novi Sad, Serbia, will be hosting the likes of The Cure, Tom Walker and Skepta. Attendees can camp on site or stay at a nearby hostel – most are within easy walking distance.

Flights to Novi Sad: £130 return

Super Bock Super Rock, Lisbon, 18-21 July

Like the Latitude line-up but feeling sun, sea and sand over grey skies and the chance of rain? Head to Lisbon for Super Bock Super Rock (18-21 July) and enjoy the likes of Lana Del Rey, The 1975 and Disclosure in the Portuguese sunshine. Camping is available on site too.

Flights to Lisbon: £96 return

Sziget, Budapest, 7-13 August

Unsure whether to brave the risk of lightning and heavy rain at this year’s Isle of Wight festival? How does dancing to Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran and Florence & The Machine in the Hungarian capital sound?

Sziget festival (7-13 August) is known for attracting the biggest names in music, not forgetting the range of alternative activities on offer – dance stages, a cinema, theatres, circus shows and sporting events, all with the bonus of 26 degree sunshine. If after all that you’re in need of a little relaxation, there’s even a beach where you can take a refreshing dip in the Danube.

Flights to Budapest: £49 return

Rock en Seine, Nr Paris, 23-25 August

Didn’t bag tickets to Glastonbury this year? Fear not, Rock en Seine (23-25 August) is the festival for you and, chances are, you won’t need your wellies.

Located just outside Paris, with camping on-site, think Glastonbury but much nicer weather – all the better for camping at the nearby Boulogne campsite.

This 120,000-strong festival offers an eclectic mix of rock, power pop, electro and folk music. This year’s confirmed artists include Jorja Smith, The Cure and Deerhunter.

Flights to Paris: £79 return

Mysteryland, Netherlands, 24-26 August

If you want to let your hair down listening to the world’s top DJs and dancing from morning till night but you’re not sure you can face a repeat of last year’s rain at Creamfields, head to Mysteryland (24-26 August), the leading electronic music festival in the Netherlands.

Boasting sets from over 300 artists, including Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Diplo and Martin Garrix, this Haarlemmermmer based festival is just a short 45 minute drive from Amsterdam.

Festival goers can opt for day tickets and stay in nearby hotels or camp on-site for the entirety of the weekend. Guests can also enjoy chill out spaces for meditation and yoga, art installations and food courts catering for your every whim.
