15 Years of GeckoFest – St. Pete/Clearwater’s Kookiest Event!

15 Years of GeckoFest – St. Pete/Clearwater’s Kookiest Event!
25 August 2015 admin_rooster

The annual festival held in Gulfport celebrates the unofficial mascot of the town – the gecko!

2015 is not just 15 years since the Millennium, it is also 15 years since the inaugural GeckoFest (www.geckofest.com) held in St. Pete/Clearwater’s Gulfport community. Taking place on 5 September this year, GeckoFest is a daylong celebration of all things gecko and Gulfport. Thousands attend the festival every year, alongside hundreds of vendors and an impressive line-up of live musicians and performers who will take to the two stages set up in the town.

The family-friendly event has an eclectic mix of DJs and performers from acrobats to break dances, escape artists, musicians, circus acts and magicians. As well as the two main stages, performers will this year take to the street, allowing visitors to get even closer to the action! In keeping with the community ethos in Gulfport, the waterfront village area will be filled with over 200 independent vendors from the local area selling unique Florida products and refreshments.

The theme of 2015’s incarnation of Geckofest is ‘Gecko Gras’ with visitors encouraged to dress up for the occasion and join in with the GeckoFest Walking Parade in their finest Mardi Gras outfits with a gecko spin! This slice of Old Florida is also preceded by the Gecko Ball a week before and, with the same theme, costumes are again encouraged. Taking place on 29 August at the Gulfport Casino, tickets for the event are $35 each and available online. The evening is filled with Cajun food, the Jammin’ Jambalaya Band on stage and the coronation of the Gecko Queen for 2015.
