DFDS Wins World’s Leading Ferry Operator at 2016 World Travel Awards

DFDS Wins World’s Leading Ferry Operator at 2016 World Travel Awards
6 December 2016 James Brooke

DFDS has been named “World’s Leading Ferry Operator” for the sixth consecutive time at the 23rd annual World Travel Awards this week (2 December 2016).

The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993 to recognise outstanding achievements within the travel industry, rewarding those companies who consistently provide their customers with an exemplary service.

DFDS was shortlisted as a finalist thanks to support from across the travel and tourism industry, with more than one million votes cast by people in 140 countries for nominees in 12 categories.

Max Foster, Passenger Director at DFDS, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the acclaimed ‘World’s Leading Ferry Operator’ award for the sixth year in a row, and send our deepest thanks to everyone who voted for DFDS.

“We always aim to offer passengers a fantastic experience whilst on-board, whether they are sampling our cruise ferry offering from Newcastle to Amsterdam, or enjoying the frequency and flexibility of our Dover to Calais and Dover to Dunkirk crossings. We have invested heavily in our services, introducing two new ships to the Dover to Calais route this year, and enhancing areas including our restaurants and kids’ areas, cinemas and cabins on our longer route. This award recognises the dedication of our staff to delivering outstanding service on every single journey, so that all those who travel with us have a memorable experience.”

The ferry operator will mark its 150th anniversary in mid-December. To mark the occasion, the company recently unveiled a Guinness World Record-breaking Lego ship, officially the largest ever created. The ship recently toured the UK, visiting Newcastle, Birmingham, London and Dover, and will continue a wider tour of Europe over the coming months.
