Websites/Apps We Love: The Brief Daily

In Rooster News

In a busy PR world full of social media, global news, breaking news, and even fake news it can be hard to keep up. Once you’ve scoured your morning paper, Twitter feed, and news app on your phone or tablet are you left feeling informed or just perplexed?

In between headlines dominated by Brexit and Trump how do you know what are the “real” news stories and what really counts?

Enter The Brief. A simple, daily roundup that lands in your inbox each morning and brings the scoop on the breaking news and current events you need to know about that day.

Each email starts with a quote of the day from the top news story. This can range from anything from “Persistently misleading passengers”, reporting on Ryanair’s flight cancellations, to “Absolute devastation”, said by Barbuda’s Prime Minister commenting on the damage suffered by the small island nation in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

Then you head to the ‘In Other News’ section, which summarises two to three main news stories in no more than a couple of paragraphs.

Finally there’s the Picture of The Day. In the last month or so this has included images of protesters gathering in Chicago to protest US President Donald Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) scheme, A fight breaking out among representatives in parliament in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, and Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President for Marketing at Apple, launching the tech giant’s iPhone X smartphone.

Finally The Brief is rounded off with ‘Have You Heard?, a snippet of quirky, unique or light-hearted news. Here you will discover all sorts of weird and wonderful information such as a settlement being reached in a lawsuit over who owns the copyright of selfie photographs taken by a monkey, a Swiss chocolate maker inventing a new type of chocolate which is naturally pink, or the French government looking for a new couple to take over the running of the small uninhabited island of Quéménès, off the coast of Brittany.

The Brief is the brainchild of SheerLuxe.com, an online lifestyle magazine covering everything from fashion to beauty, wellness, lifestyle products and destinations.

While the PR industry requires us to be on the ball, and even one step ahead of the news agenda, how do you decipher from the National Sloth Day memes and the rumours of Melania Trump’s body double to know what really counts?

Head to The Brief for your daily dose of clear, concise news – without the dog gifs.
