GoFundMe Case Study: Andrew’s Road to Recovery

Another GoFundMe campaign we’re particularly proud of is our work with sports-fanatic Andrew Bell who was told he would never walk again after breaking his back in a motorcycle accident.

In October 2015, Rooster got in touch with Andrew to help raise media awareness of his fundraising for ground-breaking medical treatment in the hope that, despite the odds, he might be able to stand again. As a result of our outreach, Andrew was interviewed by the BBC and received supportive coverage in titles including The Chronicle, Darlington & Stockton Times, the Daily Express and the Daily Mail.

In November 2015 Andrew travelled to Thailand to begin treatment and just one month later, on his 30th birthday, he sent a special video message back home. Thanks to his true grit and determination to walk again, Andrew had actually managed to stand!

Updating our media contacts on Andrew’s remarkable progress resulted in secondary pieces in The Express, Daily Mail and Northern Echo with further magazine feature pieces expected in 2016, thanks to the support of national newswire the Press Association

Andrew has also since appeared in Love It Magazine and been interviewed by his local BBC TV station – Look North and BBC Radio Newcastle. We wish Andrew all the best for his continued recovery.
